It is an area steeped in history, myths and legends, of wonderful castles, celtic hill forts, caves and stories of giants.

LAKE VYRNWY 

Just on the edge of The Snowdonia National Park, Lake Vyrnwy is set amidst the remote and beautiful Berwyn Mountains. Experience the walks and trails of the 24,000acre RSPB reserve. Walk through the sculpture park below the dam, hire a bike to cycle the lake or enrol on some activities on the lake itself.

You can even book a treatment at the Spa in the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel for complete relaxation.

DYFNANT WOOD

An upland forest on the edge of the Cambrian Mountains suitable for walkers and cyclists. It is also home to Rainbow Trails, which were created for horse riding and carriage drivers. The forest has rich growth of mixed plantation comprising of conifers as well as pockets of native deciduous trees.

PISTYLL RHAEADR

Pistyll Rhaeadr is often referred to as one of the Seven Wonders of Wales. The tallest waterfall in Wales, it is formed by the Afon Disgynfa falling in three stages over a 240 foot cliff face.

It also has many walks to suit all levels and a tea room for tasty refreshments.

WELSHPOOL & LLANFAIR LIGHT RAILWAY

A 16 mile return journey by narrow gauge steam train through beautiful Mid Wales countryside.

POWIS CASTLE & GARDENS

A stunning medieval castle which has been remodelled and embellished over more than 400 years. It houses a magnificent collection of paintings, sculptures, furniture and tapestries.

Its world famous garden is laid out beneath the castle where overhung clipped yews shelter rare and tender plants.

A LITTLE BIT FURTHER

All the places listed are within easy reach of  Tan-y-Castell and will take 3-30 minutes to get there. Should you wish to travel a little further then you can expect to reach the 3 beautiful beaches of Aberdyfi, Fairbourne and Barmouth, Coed-y-Brenin mountain biking trails, Cader Idris and Llangollen in under an hour.
